Most meta tags won't help your site's ranking anymore. However, they can still be useful in other ways

Similar meta tags = similar pages?
To avoid having your pages drop off the SERPS, or – at best – be listed as "omitted results", don't use the same meta tag on more than one web page. The same goes for title elements by the way.
